Polymer-clay nanocomposites have received much interest recently because of their excellent properties such as mechanical property, heat resistance, barrier property, optical transparency, flame retardant. But there were few reports on non-polar rubber clay nanocomposites due to low compatibility between rubber and clay. The organo-clay used in this study, was modified with quaternary ammonium salt including sulfur-sulfur bonding unit. The butyl rubber clay nanocomposites were prepared by melt blending and vulcanization process. The vulcanized properties of the resulting nanocomposites, such as tensile strength, 300% modulus, elongation at break, were measured, and also enhanced barrier property was evaluated. |
