Solid polymer electrolytes(SPEs) are considered promising candidates for the next generation all-solid state lithium battery with safety, design flexibility, and high capacity. One of the major issues in SPEs is how to enhance ionic conductivity as well as mechanical properties, because the both are in a trade-off relationship. In this work, we have designed and synthesized star-shape polymers with rigid core and poly(ethylene oxide) arms and prepared solid polymer electrolytes based on the polymers. The rigid core may provide mechanical properties and the poly(ethylene oxide) arms can offer ionic conductivity. The star shape polymer particles were prepared by using atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) or free-radical polymerization in aqueous micelle solution. The polymers were mixed with lithium salt and cross-linkers and then cured to prerpare SPEs. Ionic conductivity and electrochemical stability window of the solid polymer electrolytes were also measured and evaluated. |
