제목 Surface Modification of Cellulose Nanocrystals for Poly(L-lactide) Composites
초록 Poly(L-lactide) (PLLA) has attracted considerable interest from industry and academia because of its attractive properties. However, its brittleness and slow crystallization need be improved before it can be used manufactured industrially. Cellulose nanocrystals (CNs) are highly crystalline cellulose particles produced by acid hydrolysis from partially dissolving cellulose fibrils. The use of CNs as fillers has advantages because of their exceptionally unique properties, such as high aspect ratio and low density. However, a large number of hydroxyl groups of the CNs surface interrupt the homogeneous dispersion of these nanoparticles within a typically hydrophobic polymeric matrix. In this study, the surface of bacterial cellulose nanocrystals (BCNCs) were modified chemically using three different methods to provide improved adhesion with hydrophobic polymer matrices. The PLLA/BCNCs nanocomposites were prepared and their thermal and mechanical properties were examined
