Fabrication of Conductive Cellulose Nanocomposite by Self-Assembly of Silane Coupling Agent |

Bacterial cellulose (BC) which is a bio-based product has been attracting more attention because of its strength modulus comparable to aluminum in addition to environmental-friendliness in process. In this study, a conductive layer of polyaniline (PANi) was deposited on a modified BC surface attained by a self-assembly (SA) of a silane coupling agent. The modification is based on a chemical polymerization of aniline which is bound to self-assembled amino moieties of 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTMS) on BC. The BC nanocomposite was characterized by FT-IR analysis and contact angle measurement. SEM and conductivity measurement were also performed to identify whether PANi nanoparticles are synthesized on SA-BC surface well. The PANi/SA-BC composite showed a good electrically conductivity (~10 S/cm) achieved by a compact packing of PANi on an arrayed surface. |
