The core-shell nanofiber has great potential for tissue engineering and cell biology applications. We used the electrospinning technique to synthesize core-shell nanofibers containing various pore sizes. The phase separation technique played an important role in regulating the pore sizes. To create the porous core-shell nanofibers, we utilized two polymeric composite materials, such as polycaprolactone (PCL) and gelatin. We demonstrated that the pores created on PCL nanofibers were more elongated than on gelatin-PCL core-shell nanofibers. These synthesized polymeric nanofibers were also used as a scaffold to culture various cell types, such as embryonic stem cell, breast cancer cell, and fibroblast cell. Therefore, this porous core-shell composite polymeric nanofiber could be a powerful tool for the tissue engineering and biological applications. |
