제목 | Synthesis of Nylon 6/Clay Nanocomposites via in situ Polymerization of ε-Caprolactam Using 12-Aminododecanoic Acid-Intercalated Montmorillonite |
초록 | To increase modulus, heat distortion temperature, and gas barrier property, nylon 6/clay nanocomposites were produced via in situ polymerization of ε-caprolactam using highly pure sodium montmorillonite(Na-MMT) and 12-aminododecanoic acid-intercalated MMT(ADA-MMT) as clay and 6-aminocaproic acid as a polymerization catalyst. The X-ray diffraction was used to monitor swelling and exfoliation of MMT by ε-caprolactam and nylon 6-oligomer during polymerization. It was found that ADA-MMT could be swollen and exfoliated more easily than Na-MMT. The final polymer-clay composites obtained using ADA-MMT did not show any diffraction peak corresponding to the periodic interlayer distance of MMT, which means that MMT dispersed in the nylon 6 matrix was exfoliated completely, i.e. nylon 6/clay nanocomposite could be obtained via in situ polymerization using ADA-MMT. Thermal characterization was also carried out using TGA, DSC, and DMTA.
