제목 | Preparation and Characterization of Layered Silicates-reinforced Tetrafunctional Epoxy Nanocomposites |
초록 | Nanocomposites are a new class of composites with ultrafine phase dimension typically in the nanometer range. They show remarkable improvement in material properties when compared with pristine polymer or conventional micro- and macro-composites.1,2 In this work, the layered silicates-reinforced epoxy nanocomposites were prepared by dispersing an organically modified Na+-montmorillonite (Na+-MMT) in a glassy epoxy resins, i.e., 4,4'-tetradiglycidyl diaminodiphenol methane (TGDDM). Na+-MMT was treated with dodecylammonium and octadecylammonium chloride, and the content of ion-exchanged Na+-MMT was 1 wt%. The cure behaviors, thermal stabilities, dynamic mechanical, and mechanical interfacial properties of the nanocomposites are systematically studied. Fig. 1 shows the XRD result of pristine Na+-MMT and ion-exchanged Na+-MMT. The d-spacing of ion-exchanged Na+-MMT is greatly increased from 1.26 to 2.67 and 3.51 nm. The peak maximum temperature of the nanocomposites is decreased with addition of the ion-exchanged Na+-MMT. The nanocomposites show a higher glass transition temperature and storage modulus compared with the TGDDM matrix. And the addition of 1 wt% ion-exchanged Na+-MMT significantly led to an improving the critical stress intensity factor (KIC) of the nanocomposites, as shown in Fig. 2. This is attributed to the intercalation of the epoxy chains inside the ion-exchanged Na+-MMT gallery increases the specific surface area between the Na+-MMT and epoxy chains, resulting in improving the interfacial or physical properties of the nanocomposites.
