A series of SPPs (self-pillared pentasil) with different Si/Al ratio and mesoporosity has been synthesized. In addition, we synthesized the copper impregnated SPP (Cu-SPP) particles to adapt on the hydrocarbon (HC) trap. According to the cold-start test (CST) preformance, Cu-SPPs acted as both adsorbent and oxidizer of HCs. Especially, Cu-SPP with Si/Al ratio of ~22 and moderate mesoporosity showed outstanding performance in CST. Specifically, it adsorbed the HCs despite the existence of 10 vol% steam up to higher temperature (90 °C for propene and 190 °C for toluene) and oxidized the HCs over specific temperature. This adsorption property can be originated from the larger amount of exchanged Cu2+ ions in SPP particles, while the oxidation ability resulted from the CuO particles on the SPP particles. From the hydrothermal treatments, it was confirmed that the structure of Cu-SPP collapsed, losing its adsorption ability. However, oxidation of HC still maintained on remaining CuO. |
