제목 Characterization of elastin-like polypeptides (ELPs) and their applications as biomaterials
초록 Repetitive polypeptides are emerging as a new class of biomaterials due to their unique physical and biological properties. These repetitive peptide-based biomaterials can be applied to the design of new polymeric biomaterials with improved properties. As one of the repetitive polypeptides, elastin-like polypeptides (ELPs) are thermally responsive and can undergo a reversible phase transition. Due to their abilities to self-assemble and thermo sensitivity, ELPs have been applied to many research fields.
In this study, an ELP expression system in E. coli was constructed and the expression level of ELPs according to the ELP length was explored in a cell-free system and in vivo system. Based on these results, I demonstrated that the expressed ELPs were applied to the various biological fields such as drug delivery system, biosensor for the detection of heavy metal contamination, a scaffold material in tissue engineering, and a useful tool for DNA analysis.
