Epoxy composites are prepared by adding carbon nanotube (CNT) and milled-carbon fiber (MCF) in epoxy resins to improve the mechanical properties of the composites. Also, MCF is oxyfluorinated by oxygen and fluorine gas for enhancing interfacial adhesion of MCF with epoxy resin. The wettability of oxyfluorinated MCF (OF-MCF) in epoxy resin is measured by contact angle analysis. The mechanical properties of epoxy composites are evaluated by tensile and impact test. As the results, the contact angle decreases as the increase of fluorine content. Therefore, it can be seen that the oxygen and fluorine fuctional group of OF-MCF influence on improvement of the interfacial adhesion. Also, the mechanical properties of epoxy composites with CNT and OF-MCF are remarkably increased by 115%, 38% in tensile and impact strength than those of neat epoxy. It is attributed to enhaced interfacial adhesion between epoxy resin and OF-MCF that induced by polarity of MCF surface. |
