To improve the mechanical properties of epoxy composites, carbon nanotube (CNT) and graphene nanoplatelets (GNP) are surface-treated by fluorine gas and used as reinforcements. The different properties of fluorinated CNT/GNP/epoxy composites are obtained by tensile test, impact test, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The mechanical properties of epoxy composites reinforced fluorinated CNT and fluorinated GNP are evaluated in the tensile strength of 38.3 MPa which are indicated maximum increase with approximately 89% than that of neat epoxy. In addition, the composites also show the best result of impact strength than that of other samples. These results are attributed to enhance the dispersion in epoxy resin and interfacial interaction between the fluorinated reinforcements and epoxy resin. |
