Heterogeneous photocatalytic processes using inorganic semiconductors are effective for oxidizing a wide range of organic pollutants. Titanium dioxide (TiO2) is the most popular heterogeneous photocatalyst because of its high activity, chemical stability, and commercial availability. Nevertheless, the difficulty in separating TiO2 slurry from treated water and the growing concerns of particulate toxicity still limit its industrial feasibility. One method by which to simplify post-reaction catalyst isolation is to immobilize TiO2 on a suitable substrate. In this talk, several types of an efficient, inexpensive, and scalable immobilized photocatalyst produced by electrospinning and/or electrospraying will be introduced including their reusability and efficacy in degrading organic pollutants. |
