제목 Synthesis of High Molecular Weight Polybenzimidazole Using a Highly Pure Monomer under Mild Condition
초록 Isophthalaldehyde bisulfite adduct (IBA) is synthesized by the reaction between sodium sulfite and isophthalaldehyde. Isophthalaldehyde monosulfite, which is difficult to be removed by simple crystallization, is inevitably synthesized in the reaction. To obtain pure IBA, excess sodium sulfite is used. Highly pure IBA is obtained without crystallization. The IBA is used as a starting monomer for the synthesis of poly[2,2’-(m-phenylene)-5,5’-bisbenzimidazole] (PBI). Previous isolation method of IBA hindered the preparation of high molecular weight PBI. New purification procedure provides high purity of IBA, resulting in high molecular weight PBI.
