The Reduction of Nitrobenzene Derivatives Using a New Polymer Reagent |

New N-substituted acrylamide monomer was polymerized with styrene by a suspension polymerization in the presence of crosslinking agent to obtain microporous crosslinked copolymer particles. They were used as a polymer reagent for organic reduction reaction: nitrobenzene and its derivatives were reduced in high yield by using a Zn/NH4Cl system in water in the presence of the prepared copolymer particles without any organic solvent at mild condition. Unlike a conventional reduction utilizing the Zn/NH4Cl system, as an example, the use of the microporous copolymer reagents enables the high selectivity of nitrobenzene to hydrazobenzene during the reduction. |
