제목 | Synthesis and properties of sulfonated poly(aryl ether benzimidazole) and Nafion composite membrane as proton exchange membrane for fuel cells |
초록 | Proton exchange membrane (PEM)s are essential to the operation and advancement of the fuel cell technology as they served as gas separator and the electrolyte for transporting protons from anode to the cathode. Recently, there has been intense research interest in the development of PEM fuel cells for transportation and portable power application. Sulfonated perfluorocopolymers such as Nafion and Flemion have been recognized as the best materials due to their high proton conductivity and excellent chemical stability. However, these copolymers have some disadvantages in high cost, reduced conductivity at high temperature, and high methanol permeability. To satisfy these requirements, new proton conducting polymer electrolyte membranes based on hydrocarbon polymers have been developed by many research groups. Aromatic poly(bezimidazole)s (PBI) have attracted much attention for their potential use in proton exchange membranes because they have excellent thermal stability and mechanical durability, good oxidation resistance and low methanol permeability. In this work, novel sulfonated poly(aryl ether benzimidazoles (PAEBI)s and Nafion/PAEBI composite membrane for proton exchange membranes will be discussed in terms of the proton conductivity, water-uptake, IEC value and methanol permeability etc. The further research on the thermal/mechanical properties as well as methanol permeation will be reported in the meeting. |
