Wound healing is a complex and dynamic process associated with removing debilitated tissues and forming new tissue structures. Uncontrolled regulation of the wound repair process disrupts multiple biological pathways and inflammatory reactions, resulting in unsuccessful wound healing. Here, we develop a piezoelectric dermal patch and demonstrate its therapeutic efficacy for wound healing. Piezoelectric materials can generate electrical field (EF) even under small mechanical deformations, thus avoiding the use of subsidiary, external electrical devices to induce EF. In summary, here we developed a piezoelectric dermal patch that can be directly applied on skin wound site and generates EF and piezoelectric potentials at the wound bed to enhance skin regeneration. In vitro and in vivo data demonstrated that the piezoelectric patch promoted the wound healing process through enhanced cellular metabolism, migration, and protein synthesis. |
