Dye-based color filter can be attractive alternatives to overcome the limitation of pigment-based color filter due to the reduced light scattering resulting from the fact that dyes are dissolved in the media and exist in molecular form. In this study we synthesized and characterized 3,4,9,10-perylene tetracarboxylic bis(benzimidazole) (PTCBI) dyes. Donating groups are substituted on bay position of the dyes for solubility enhancement on industrial solvents and color adjustment. Structures of the dyes were identified by NMR, mass spectrometry and elemental analysis. The optical and thermal properties of the dyes were measured through UV-Vis spectrometry, TGA and DSC. The results indicated that the synthesized dyes can be suitably applied to blue part of dye-based LCD color filter. |
