A new type composite non-woven mat as sandwich separator for lithium ion batteries(LIBs) were developed using both electrospinning technique and electrospraying technique. PI-composite separators were fabricated as multi-fibrous layers by electrospinning poly(amic acid) ammonium salt(PAAS) solution. The microstructures of the electrospun PI nanofibers, sandwiched PI–SiO2-composite nanofibers, sandwiched PI–Al2O3-composite nanofibers, and the commercial separator SV718 were examined using field-emission scanning electron microscopy. The thermal stability of the separators, evaluated in a hot-oven test, showed no shrinkage of PI and PI composites at 200 °C, while SV718 started to shrink at above 100 °C. The wettability and electrochemical performance of sandwiched PI-composite separators were investigated and, the results were compared with those of a commercial separator, porous polyolefin separator. |
