In-situ design of N-doped carbon nano-onions (N-CNOs) for high-performance supercapacitor devices |

Highly graphitic nitrogen-doped carbon nano-onions (N-CNO) are synthesized by a simple and low-cost flame pyrolysis method for supercapacitors. The pyrolysis of 30 ml Pyrrole produces a high yield of 600 mg black nanoparticles. The graphitic N-CNO with well-ordered concentric graphene layers and appropriate lattice spacing are confirmed by the structural analyses. The devices, both the symmetric and asymmetric devices are fabricated, particularly, the ASC device shows a specific capacitance value 205 F g-1 with a high energy density of 60 Wh kg-1 and power density of 5.5 kW kg-1. Furthermore, both the novel symmetric and asymmetric devices have exhibited good capacity retention of 96-98% over 5000 cycles. These findings suggest that the N-rich-CNOs have excellent electrochemical performance, and can be used in high-performance energy storage devices. |
