Poly(thiophenes), particularly P3HT investigated extensively for more than two decades, largely because of their excellent electrical and optical properties, which can be exploited for many potential application such as, organic field-effect transitor (FETs), chemosensors, electrochemical capacitor and solar cell. In this study we coupled with Ru(II) complex with regioregular P3HT to further improve its efficiency in dye-sensitized solar cells. The end terminated P3HT was successfully functionalized by bromination followed by incorporation of the terpyridine or bipyridine ligands by using palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction and then complexation with ruthenium(III) salts. The synthesized polymer was fully characterized by UV-Vis, NMR, photoluminescence, CV, GPC and SEM. The synthesized hybrid polymer-metal complex materials are expected to exhibit enhanced efficiency in dye-sensitized solar cells. |
