Cellulose nanofibril (CNF) has been known as one of the most promising biomaterials. However, it appears relatively low dispersibility and poor energy efficiency of processings. These problems can be improved by 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl (TEMPO)-mediated oxidation. This method enables TEMPO-treated CNF to have superior dispersibility and much smaller polymer width by carboxylate substitution. Through this mechanism, it can be optimally used as additive material in biopolymer products. Necessarily, it became more important to analyze the quantitated rheological behaviors of TEMPO-treated CNF under various conditions. The main objective of this study is to characterize the rheological properties of TEMPO-treated CNF in well-defined shear flow fields using a strain-controlled rheometer. |
