The oligofluorene block segment, used as the rigid-rod like midblock segment, was connected with hydrophilic end blocks of poly[penta(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate] by using an atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) technique which led to an amphiphilic, symmetric triblock copolymer of poly[penta(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate]-block-poly(9,9-didodecylfluorene-2,7-diyl)-block-poly[penta(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate] (denoted as PEGMA-b-PF-b-PEGMA). ATRP was carried out by using 2-bromoisobutyrate end-capped polyfluorene macroinitiator. and CuBr/ N,N,N’,N’,N’’-pentamethyldiethylenetriamine (PMDETA) catalyst. 1H NMR and GPC were used to confirm the molecular weight and structures of these triblock copolymers. We also investigated the UV absorption and photoluminescence of PEGMA-b-PF-b-PEGMA both in solid state and selective solvents. |
