Ordered mesoporous Co3O4-Al2O3 catalysts for CO hydrogenation to hydrocarbons: Effects of phosphorus modifier to an enhanced catalytic activity and stability |

A gradual increasing demand for alternative clean fuels has made a gas-to-liquids (GTL) process to be one of the promising technologies, where Fischer-Tropsch synthesis (FTS) reaction by CO (or CO2) hydrogenation is a crucial step to convert syngas into synthetic fuels by combining with various reforming processes even for CO2-rich natural (or shale) gases. In present study, the mesoporous Co-based FTS catalyst was investigated to find how to increase the catalytic stability with a proper promoter for FTS reaction. The highly ordered mesoporous Co-Al mixed metal oxide (m-CoAl) revealed a stable catalytic and structural stability with an optimal amount of phosphorus modifier. The hydrophobic SiO2-like tridymite AlPO4 surfaces formed on the matrices of the mesoporous m-CoAl effectively prevented the heavy wax (or coke precursors) depositions. |
