Structural evaluation and large strain response of SrZrO3 –modified (Bi0.5Na0.5)TiO3–based lead-free ceramics |

Effects of SrZrO3 (SZ) modification on the structural and electromechanical properties of a lead-free Bi0.5Na0.5TiO3, Bi0.5(Na0.80K0.20)0.5TiO3 and Bi0.5Na0.5TiO3-0.065BaTiO3 (abbreviated as BNT, BNKT and BNBT, respectively) ceramics were compared within a doping range of 0–5 mol%. The X-ray diffraction analysis of SZ-modified BNT and BNKT ceramics reveals pseudocubic symmetry with no remarkable change in the crystal structure, however it induced phase transformation in BNBT from mixed tetragonal to the pseudocubic symmetry. Nevertheless, SZ-addition strongly effects on the EFIS and polarization hysteresis loops. BNT-modified samples exhibited typical ferroelectric behavior without large increase in EFIS, conversely BNKT and BNBT specimens revealed the disruption in the ferroelectric order resulting in the abnormal enhancement in the EFIS at relaxor ferroelectric phase. At the driving field of 6 kV/mm, a large EFIS of 0.37% and 0.40% (Smax/Emax = 617 and 676 pm/V) was perceived at the critical composition of BNKT-SZ3 and BNBT-SZ2, respectively. |
