Studies on Rheological Properties of Glycidyl Methacrylate Wrapped Multi-walled Carbon Nanotubes-reinforced Polypropylene Nanocomposites |

In this work, the effect of chemically grafted multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) on rheological properties of MWNTs-reinforced polypropylene (PP) has been studied. Pristine MWNTs were chemically grafted by glycidyl methacrylate (GMA). The surface characteristics of chemically grafted MWNTs were examined by Fourier Transfer-Raman spectroscopy (FT-Raman), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Zeta potential analysis. The rheological properties of PP-based nanocomposites increased with increasing the GMA-MWNTs content. These results were probably due to the increased surface free energy on GMA-MWNTs and also due to improvement of interfacial bonding strength between GMA-MWNTs and PP. |
