Utilization of low-grade solid fuel such as low-grade coal, solid waste and biomass is one of the key issues in industry. They can be used in an existing energy system (industrial/power boiler) using conventional fossil fuels and in a system newly designed for the low-grade fuels.Korea Institute of Industrial Technology (KITECH) has been performed researches on the utilization of the low-grade fuels considering industrial end-users. In this study, two topics and their research status are introduced; one is co-combustion of syngas produced from gasification of the solid fuel and the other is gasification of woody biomass using dual fluidized bed reactor. We have tested syngas combustion in real-scale systems and their results are presented. Regarding the biomass gasification, 1 ton biomass/day dual fluidized bed gasifier has been developed and its test results are also introduced briefly. |
