The lithium-ion battery separator is a micro-porous membrane placed between a cathode and an anode, and its main function is to physically isolate two electrodes and so that no electrons can flow in between. The lithium-ion battery separators are highly related to the almost every failure modes of the lithium-ion batteries, for example, the internal short-circuits caused by the mechanical breakdown and/or thermal deformation (shrinkage or melt-integrity) of the separator. Recently, many scientists and engineers try to enhance the mechanical and thermal properties of the lithium-ion battery separators using some special polymeric or polymer/ ceramic composite materials having high thermal-stability and mechanical strength. We’d like to show our recent progress related to it. |
