A Conjugated Polyelectrolyte with Functional Carboxylic Acids via the Non-catalyst Polymerization of 2-Ethynylpyridine |

The ionic polyacetylenes have unique electrical and electro-optical properties based on the π-conjugated systems and potentials as materials for electric conductivity, energy storage devices such as batteries, permselective membrane, solar cells, and, light-emitting devices. Here we report a synthesis of new conjugated polyelectrolyte. A new ionic conjugated polymer was synthesized by the catalyst-free polymerization of 2-ethynylpyridine using 10-bromodecanoic acid in high yield. The activated acetylenic triple bond of monomeric salt was susceptible to linear polymerization to give the corresponding polymer. The polymer structure was characterized by various instrumental methods such as NMR, IR, and UV-visible spectroscopies. The photoluminescence peak is located at 583 nm corresponding to a photon energy of 2.13 eV. |
