A Fluorometric Logic Gate Based on Multicomponent Organic Systems that Combine Exciton-Migration and Photochromic Switching |

Over the past few decades, efforts in replicating the Boolean logic gate on a molecular scale have been made possible via various organic molecules and materials that display a variety of logic outputs in the form of optical signal in response to special input stimuli. A fluorometric logic system is particularly attractive for point-of-use applications due to its low-cost and rapidness. Among the various exciton migration-controlled fluorescence color tuning systems explored thus far, self-assembled nanostructure scaffolds that incorporate with photochromic materials in polymer matrix was expected to demonstrate possibility of color tunings. The systems consisted of a photochromic compound in combination with unique luminescent conjugated polymer containing thieno-pyrazine unit that exhibited intense fluorescence in the solid state. The emission spectrum was tuned by introducing exciton migration and photochromic switching capabilities into the system. |
