Study on the detection of biotin-streptavidin binding with single polypyrrole nanowire |

In this work, we report the initial investigations on biomolecular functionalization of polypyrrole nanowire and nanofilm. Polypyrrole nanowires and nanofilms are synthesized on the device having microelectrodes via chemical oxidative polymerization with pyrrole monomer and pyrrole-3-carboxylic acid monomer. The characteristics of polymerized copolymer are investigated by Infrared Spectroscopy. The formation of nanowire and nanofilm are confirmed using both an optical and scanning electron microscope in addition to the electrical measurement using two terminal electrodes. Biofuctionalization of copolymer is performed with biotin hydrizide and carboxylic group on the polypyrrole. The biotin-streptavidin reactions on the copolymer nanowire and nanofim are observed by fluorescence microscopy and electrical changes. These results show the possibility of conducting polymer nanowire as a cheap platform for ultrasensitive, direct detection of a wide range of biological and chemical species. |
