Sulfonation of Poly(vinylbenzyl chloride)-grafted FEP Membranes |
초록 |
A two-step reaction (substitution reaction using thiourea to form thiourenium salt and a subsequent oxidation using hydrogen peroxide) was successfully applied to modify the benzylic chloride moiety of PVBC (Polyvinylbenzyl chloride)-grafted FEP membranes to a benzylic sulfonic acid moiety. Several attempts using sulfite ions failed due to the low reactivity of the sulfite ion with the membranes. The sulfonation was confirmed by FTIR, TGA, and SEM-EDX. Ion exchange capacity (IEC) and the degree of sulfonation (DOS) were also measured. |
