The Composite of Carbon Nanotubes and TiO2 Nanoparticles by UV Irradiation |

The carbon nanotube has been known as a promising supporter for improving photocatalytic activity of titanium dioxide due to its large surface area, high aspect ratio and electron accepting property. Therefore, many researchers have been studying composition of carbon nanotubes and TiO2 nanoparticles. In this study, the synthesis of the composite was carried out by following procedure. First, the TiO2 nanoparticles were prepared in water(1.2 % HNO3) by sol-gel process using titanium isopropoxide as a precursor. Second, a small amount of SWNTs was dispersed in the TiO2 colloidal solution, and the mixture was exposed to UV light. By irradiating UV light to the mixture, the surface of SWNTs was coated with TiO2 nanoparticles via chemical bonding. The composite was characterized with SEM, XRD, FT-IR and Raman spectroscopy. |
