Adsorption Characteristics of Trichloroacetic Acid in a Fixed Bed |

Adsorption chraterictics of trichloroacetic acid onto GAC were studied to get basic information on their removal from aqueous solution. Adsorption amount of trichloroacetic acid onto GAC increased with decreasing pH of the solution. Kinetic parameters were measured in a batch adsorber to analyze the adsorption rate of trichloroacetic acid . The breakthrough time of trichloroacetic acid was decreasing with increasing pH values. Since the hydrogen ion concentration (pH) has a major effect on the degree of ionization of the sorbate and the surface properties of the adsorbents. Desorption of trichloroacetic acid was about 95% only using distilled water of usually pH 7. The effluent pH decreasd in the earlier adsorption stage, and then increased to influent pH as adsorption proceeded. |
