Organic semiconductors have been studied for electronic devices such as light-emitting diodes (LEDs), thin-film transistors (TFTs), and photovoltaic cells (PVCs) due to their facile processability and low-cost production. Solution-processing techniques such as spin-coating and ink-jet printing methods are strictly required in order to enable low-cost fabrication on large areas. The pentacene is one of the well-known organic semiconductor exhibiting high charge carrier mobility and on/off current ratio. However, poor solubility of the pentacene in common organic solvents is one of the major drawbacks which limit its utility by solution-processing techniques. In this study, we describe the design and synthesis of soluble pentacene precursors and their use in the solution-based fabrication for high-performance OTFTs. |
