Nanoclay and Glass Fiber Mat Reinforced Rigid Polyurethane Foam |

Polyurethane (PU) composite foams have been prepared based on various contents of nanoclay and glass fiber mat. PU nanocomposite foams with nanoclay showed small and uniform cell which gave a decrease in thermal conductivity compared with the pristine PU foams. However, glass fiber mat reinforced polyurethane composite foams showed irregular cells which gave an increased thermal conductivity compared with the pristine PU foams. With increasing amount of nanoclay and glass fiber mat, mechanical properties and dimensional stability of PU composite foams were remarkably enhanced both at low and high temperatures. It was also shown that overall thermal conductivity of the PU foams mainly depends on cell size and thermal conductivity of glass fiber mat inside the resin as well as the conductivity of the blowing gas. |
