Polyisoprene-block-poly(2-vinylpyridine) (PI-b-P2VP) forms uniform donut-shaped micelles in mixed ethanol/THF system. Due to the low glass transition temperature of PI block, PI-b-P2VP micelles with PI core can easily change the micelle structures upon solvent composition change. In this study, formation process of donut-shaped micelles was investigated by monitoring the micelle structures at different solvent compositions, from the solvent composition at critical micellization to the stable donut-shaped micelle. Static and dynamic light scattering was employed to monitor the micelle structure directly in the solution state, and it was observed that both Rg/Rh ratio and aggregation number of the micelle changed upon solvent composition change. In addition, the individual micelles were observed by atomic force microscopy (AFM) after coating the micelles to a solid substrate. |
