In this work, the activated carbon fibers (ACFs) were treated by electrolessly Cu plating in order to remove HCl gases. The specific surface area and pore volume were determined by ASAP 2400 using BET's equation and de Boer's t-plot method. The surface properties were investigated with FT-IR, SEM-EDS, and NIR measurements. The HCl concentration was confirmed by a gas detecting tube. As a result, the specific surface area and pore volume were decreased with the increasing the treatment time due to the pore-blocking or etching. Meanwhile, the oxygen containing functional groups were increased with the increase of treatment time from the result of FT-IR spectra. Also, HCl removal efficiency of electrolessly Cu plated ACFs was increased with increasing the treatment time due to the catalytic reaction between Cu metal on ACFs and HCl gas. Consequently, it was found that electrolessly Cu plating was one of the useful methods for HCl removal. |
