Film formation methods on desired materials are of immense scientific and technological interest, since they allow control over the interaction between their surfaces and surrounding environments. However, most existing methods demand either expensive, multiple, or time-consuming procedures. Furthermore, substrates are often limited to specific materials due to the lack of interactions between films and substrate materials. In this presentation, a simple, rapid, and robust conformal coating method using one-step assembly of polyphenol and metal ions[1] will be presented. A wide range of substrates can be coated instantaneously upon simply mixing polyphenols and metal ions in water in the presence of the desired substrates. The film deposition can be performed on various substrates, due to the substrate-independent adhesion properties of polyphenols, including inorganic, organic, and biological particular templates, as well as planar templates.
