Chitosan has unique properties such as biocompatibility, non-toxic, biodegradability, and anti-bacterial effect. For development of bioadhesive material, chitosan modified with D, L-3, 4-dihydroxy phenylalanine (D, L-DOPA). D, L-DOPA is amino acid of adhesive protein in mussel, which has appeared strong adhesive strength due to catechol group. The DOPA-grafted chitosan was prepared by EDC/NHS catalyst system in mild condition. Carboxy group of D, L-DOPA was coupled with amino group of chitosan. The DOPA-grafted chitosan was confirmed by FT-IR and H-NMR. According to degree of grafting level, the physical properties of DOPA-grafted chitosan were investigated such as degree of swelling, hydrophilicity, adhesive strength. Biological properties of D, L-DOPA were identified by MTT test and lysozyme degradation. |
