Photo-polymerization nematic LC was used to form a thin film using a bar coating process. The LC was bar-coated on KBr substrate without any alignment layer at various temperatures. In order to introduce the photo-polymerization, the film exposed in air using UV exposure at the temperature. We have carried out a detailed investigation of the LC orientation of this film using Polarized-FTIR spectroscopy and birefringence measurement. We found that LC of the film is oriented in normal direction to bar coating direction, and oriented direction of LC is changed to parallel to the shear axis with increasing temperature. To understand at deeper level, we changed other factors, such as shear rate and film thickness. We have studied of orientation of LC to a variation of viscosity caused by shear rate and temperature. |
