Catalytic oxidation of naphthalene using a mesoporous supported metal catalyst |

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs) have been found in diesel exhaust. This study investigates the application of the catalytic oxidation using metal/SBA-15 and metal/Ɣ-Alumina catalysts to decompose PAHs based on the production of CO2 and the conversion of naphthalene as a target compound. The metal/SBA-15 was found to exhibit higher naphthalene oxidizing activity than metal/Ɣ-Alumina at low temperature. The characteristics of mesoporous materials as support resulted from the higher surface area and the regular pore size compared to other oxide supports allow to achieve a high activity at low temperature. |
