제목 Dewetting of a PVP Overlayer in Layer Inversion Mechanism of Inverted PVP/PS Bilayer Films
초록 Using optical microscopy (OM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) we have measured the dewetting kinetics and layer inversion process of inverted poly(2-vinylpyridine)/polystyrene (PVP/PS) bilayer films, which were prepared by first spin coating a PS layer on a silicon wafer, followed by a PVP top layer. The molecular weight and thickness of the PS underlayer were varied from 12,000 g/mol to 75,000 g/mol and 40 nm to 80 nm while those of the PVP layer were held constant at 8000 g/mol and 40 nm. In comparison with the previous dewetting data on the bilayer films with similar molecular weights and thicknesses between PVP and PS, higher molecular weight (i.e., more viscous) PS layer at the bottom layer with similar thickness and similar molecular weight (i.e., less viscous) PS layer with different thickness were used in this study. On annealing above the glass transition temperatures of both PVP and PS we observe that the dewetting process of PVP overlayer is satisfied with mass conservation between dewetted hole and rim, which is independent on the molecular weights and thicknesses of PS layer, and the layer inversion mechanism begins after the dewetting of PVP layer is over.
