Ferroelectric materials would be used as next-generation information storage devices. To compete with conventional storage materials, their size should be reduced. However, it is predicted that below a critical size the ferroelctricity would no longer exist. To study the size effect on the ferroelectricity, we prepared the array of nano-sized PbTiO3(PTO) dots on a single crystalline substrate using block copolymer micelles. The micelles were prepared by the addition of polystyrene-b-poly(4-vinyl pyridine) copolymer to PTO precursor solution and diluted with a selective solvent. The micelle solution was spin coated on single crystalline substrate. PTO nanodot array was thermally treated to induce epitaxial growth. Crystal structure and the ferroelectricity of PTO nanodots were studied by X-ray diffraction and piezoresponse force microscopy.
