Graft polymerization of methacrylic acid onto irradiated polypropylene |

In the present study, polypropylene(PP) was graft copolymerized with methacrylic acid in the presence of additives such as acid and metallic salts by radiation. The effect of acid and metallic salts on the grafting yield was examined. PP pellet was irradiated with an electron beam at an acceleration energy of 1 MeV. The EB irradiation was conducted from 10 kGy to 150kGy. The irradiated PP was immersed in the monomer solution that was purged by bubbling nitrogen. The grafting reaction was carried out by placing the ampoules in a water bath set at a relavant temperature. After the grafting reaction, the grafted PP was taken out of the monomer solution and washed with methanol. The addition of appropriate salts in methacrylic acid grafting solutions was beneficial enhancement effect in radiation grafting. |
