Hydroxycinnamic acid (HCA), as an antioxidant, has low stability and insufficient activity for industrial usage. Thus, we synthesized hydroxycinnamoyl-peptide conjugates by solid-phase peptide synthesis (SPPS) method, and evaluated their potential antioxidant properties. When peptides such as glutathione analogue GS(Bzl)H and carnosine (β-alanyl-histidine) were conjugated to HCAs, they showed synergistically enhanced antioxidant activities. In addition, they showed a significant effect on melanogenesis and MMP-1 expression level in the cell system. The compounds have great potential to be used as safe and powerful antioxidants in pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. |
