제목 Carboxyl-functionalized Metal-Organic Frameworks for removal of toxic chemicals in oily phase
초록 Toxic chemicals in oily phase such as quinoline, 3-MCPD, glycidyl ester are one of the most critical issues in the world. Because of structural diversity and facile functionalization, Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) are considered as promising adsorbents. Open metal sites and functional groups of MOF can accept a pair of electrons, inducing an acid-base interaction with quinoline. Moreover, it is expected that through the introduction of carboxyl groups, 3-MCPD and glycidyl esters are adsorbed by covalent bonds. However, there is no systematic study for adsorption and its efficiency of Fe-MIL-88s in oily phase.
In this study, we focused on the optimization of Fe-MIL-88 for adsorption in oil. Depending on the length of ligands, the synthesized Fe-MIL-88s were named Fe-MIL-88_NDC, BDC and BPDC, respectively. Fe-MIL-88_BDC showed the highest adsorption performance, followed by Fe-MIL-88_BPDC and NDC. This is because the higher surface area, the more sites can interact with toxic chemicals. After introducing the carboxyl groups, the functionalized Fe-MIL-88_BDC indicated higher removal capacity than Fe-MIL-88_BDC due to additional acid-base interaction and covalent bond by functional groups. This study expected to provide the concepts of adsorption of toxic chemicals and fundamental understanding for improvement of removal capacity in oily phase with MOFs.
