This presentation describes the development of functional microfluidic culture platforms and nanoparticles to regulate apoptosis of breast cancer cells and differentiation of embryonic stem cells. Embryonic stem cells have the ability to generate the various cell types, such as neurons and endothelial cells. To control embryonic stem cell-derived endothelial cell and neuronal differentiation, we fabricated the micropillar-based three-layer microfluidic culture platforms containing pneumatically actuated microvalves. We also generated the drug-loaded functional polymeric complex nanoparticles (e.g., gliadin, polyethyleneimine) for the cancer apoptosis and embryonic stem cell differentiation into neurons. Therefore, these functional microfluidic platforms and polymeric nanoparticles could be powerful tools for understanding the cancer apoptosis and embryonic stem cell-derived neurons or endothelial cell differentiation. |
