Synergistic Effect of Hybrid Carbon Nantube-Nanosilica in Enhancing the Electrical and EMI Shielding Effectiveness Properties of EMA Nanocomposites |

In this study, a new type of materials, based on poly(ethylene-co-methyl acrylate) (EMA) copolymer, nanosilica (NS) and MWNTs has been prepared via by solution mixing followed by melt blending technique. Thermal, mechanical and electrical properties of the resulting nanocomposites have been measured and compared to the corresponding binary systems. The enhancements of technical properties along with the improvements in electrical and electromagnetic properties have been observed. Interestingly, a synergistic effect arising from the combination of MWNTs and NS has been evidenced in some cases. The state of dispersion of the MWNTs found to be inferior with increasing MWNTs content in the EMA matrix. Rheological and electrical properties of the nanocomposites are also studied. The surface and volume resistivity of composites was strongly related with the MWNTs-NS composition in the polymer matrix. Finally, the nanocomposites were tested to evaluate their EMI shielding effectiveness. |
