Triblock copolymers, in which three chemically different polymers are covalently linked, exhibit far more diverse morphologies than diblock copolymers. In this study, we investigated morphologies of PS-b-PI-b-PMMA triblock copolymers by transmission electron microscopy and small-angle X-ray scattering. Side products of triblock copolymers formed during the synthetic procedure were removed by solvent gradient liquid chromatography. Solvent annealing with chloroform vapor was used to develop well-oriented nanostructure of the triblock copolymers. We observed simple lamellar and cylinder in lamellar structures which are well-known morphologies of triblock copolymers. In addition, a new type of cylindrical phase and a modulated lamellar phase were observed and their structures were analyzed by transmission electron microtomography. |
