Near-infrared (NIR) cut-off filter is one of the core components of CMOS (Complementary metal-oxide semiconductor) image sensors to calibrate the images between sensor-measured signals and human visual signals. There are some representative organic dyes for NIR cut-off filters such as squaraines, phthalocyanines, cyanines and diammonium dyes. In this study, we investigated the applicability of squaraine dyes on NIR cut-off filter. Squaraine dyes are constructed with an oxocyclobutenolate acceptor core and two aromatic donor moieties, and they exhibit a sharp and intensive absorption peak in the NIR region. However, squaraine dyes have poor solubility in solvents such as PGMEA or toluene, which are mainly used in film manufacturing processes. Therefore, we have studied the relationship between the structure of the donors and the solubility of squaraine dyes and expected the results might contribute to fabricating various films for NIR cut-off filter. |
